It's a very free environment to pursue academic questions
in the way that you want
and what are kind of
some of the advantages of working in academia
in Germany that may not be as accessible in the US
especially kind of
noting these two very different
academic systems that we have
so one that kind of ultimate sense of academic
and research freedom so the ability to truly
without any kind of fear of recourse
be able to research and apply for grant funding
and do the type of work that you want to do
even if it's highly critical of your university
your government anything like that
you're insulated from any kind of action against that
I mean obviously
where that line stops is
if you're pursuing any kind of criminal activity
or pushing for any kind of political extremism
in one way or another because of Germany's history
there's a very fine line
around what you can and cannot
say when it comes to extremist politics
but outside of that is
a very free environment to pursue academic questions
in the way that you want
with the type of methodologies that you want
with the type of collaborators that you want
so you're you're protected in a lot of ways there
