Transcript: So I have no plans to leave Portugal, which is why I'm like, look, if it's five years, (0:08) if it's 10 years, it doesn't matter to me as long as Portugal will let me stay, I'm here. (0:17) But I do get very nervous then around renewal time, like what happens if I'm one of the people (0:24) that Portugal says, well, we've had a good run. See you later.
You know, I think most expats have (0:30) that kind of underlying anxiety. Yeah, which is why when people are like, should I get another (0:35) passport? I'm like, the answer is usually yes. Yeah, the answer is usually yes, because the US (0:39) has citizenship based taxation as of now.
Right. And it makes everything really, really complex (0:44) for US citizens, but other countries don't. So let's say you do become a Portuguese citizen, (0:49) and then you do decide to move to France or Germany or really any other country, (0:55) like as long as you don't still operate a business in Portugal, and you don't own a (0:59) home that you're renting out, and you don't have like those financial ties.
(1:02) Like when you leave your tax residency is like it's also broken.
