Carl Richards' daughter said something that stopped him cold.
He was complaining that moving his family to New Zealand was harder than expected. And she looked at him and said: it really cracks me up that you thought you were going to have an adventure without it being hard. What did you think was going to happen?
He was slightly annoyed. Mostly because she was right.
The cognitive load of moving abroad is real. Finding peanut butter. Driving on the other side of the road. Not understanding anyone at the gym for six months. It is hard in ways you cannot fully prepare for.
But Carl, a CFP® who spent four years in New Zealand and a year in London, says the hardest parts were also the most formative. And that if he had known how hard the first 90 days would be, he's not sure he would have gone. Which means he would have missed the most important experience of his life.
His advice now is simple. Don't worry about it. Just go do it.
