Most families pack their Europe itinerary full — every museum, every church, every city. Then wonder why the kids are miserable and the adults are burned out.

Danielle Shumway learned this the hard way. She was traveling through the Czech Republic with three kids under four when a pain started shooting into her skull. She thought it was a cavity. Her dentist told her it was stress.

That trip gave her the 70/30 rule: 70% of your time traveling Europe with kids should be outdoors for example: lakes, hikes, bike rides, cooking classes. The other 30% is cities and museums. And never four churches in one morning.

Danielle has traveled to over 50 countries with her four kids while living as an American expat in Italy. She shares the full playbook in this week’s episode of Passport to Wealth with Arielle Tucker, CFP®, EA
