Mark Moberg's family landed in Lisbon on Christmas Day, months behind schedule, with no furniture waiting for them and a nasal swab required just to eat at a restaurant. That's the moving-abroad story nobody posts on Instagram.

Mark is a certified financial planner who closed his practice in Tampa, Florida to move his own family to Portugal for his wife's job, and he's spent the years since helping other Americans make the same kind of move. He recently wrote a book called The Life Arbitrage, Permission to Have Dessert, and in this conversation he and Arielle get into what actually decides whether a family thrives abroad or struggles.
